Home Economics - Pikelets

Yesterday in HE we made pikelets and they were delicious. First when we got there we put our aprons on and got our container and ect.... to get ready for the session. After all that we got our mese on play done which means we have all of our ingredients ready on the table. After that we read the recipe to see what we need to do today. Here is the recipe of the piklets.

INGREDIENTS
1 cup plain flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup milk

METHOD
Sift the flour, baking powder and the salt into a bowl. In another bowl beat the egg and sugar with a whisk until pale and thick. Add the egg mixture and the milk to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Gently heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat and add or brush with a little melted butter. Drop tablespoonfuls of the mixture from the point of the spoon onto the surface. When bubbles start to burst on the top of the pikelets, turn them over and cook the second side until golden. Place on cooling rack to keep cool. Last serve with a sweet or savoury topping

Here is a photo copie of the recipe.

Here are the photos of the process.

HE - Chocolate Chip Cookies

Yesterday in HE we made chocolate chip cookies and they were delicious. First when we got to the cooking room we got our containers and then washed our hands as per usual and washed our table and ect... Then we started looking at the recipe to see what we needed. After that we did the mese on play which means we got all of the ingredients and then put them all up onto the table nicely. Unfortunate I forgot to take a photo of the mese on play but I did take photos of the baking process. Then we Started doing out thing and started making the chocolate chip cookies. After that we did the dishes and waited and waited for the cookies to cook then they were ready, and then we took them out and waited for them to cool down. The product looked good but we didn't mix in the sugar so they were very sweet, and so they looked very crumbly but they still did taste amazing. Here is the recipe for the chocolate chip cookies.

The recipe makes 15 but we only made 12 cookies for 3 each person in group.

100g butter
1/2 cup Chelsea white sugar
1/2 cup Chelsea soft brown sugar
1 eggs
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 1/2 cups flour
pinch of salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cups chocolate chips

Method:
Melt butter, and add both sugars and cream these together. Beat in the eggs and vanilla then mix in the dry ingredients. Roll into medium sized balls, making sure the mixture is not too wet! Put on a well greased baking tray. The shouldn't spread too much so flatten slightly. Bake at 180 for 8-10 minutes

Tips: You can easily half this recipe. Or roll half into a log, wrap in cling film and freeze. Cut into 15 pieces while still frozen and bake.

Here is the photos of the baking that we did.

Coraline Notes

Today in literacy we were just making notes about Coraline and what happened in each part of the movie. Here are the notes that I have wrote from today's lesson.

Opening Scene:

  • Music - Sounds quiet creepy and it also sounds like a music box or child's. There are also some lyrics that say dreaming over and over again. At the start the music gets quiet and then louder.
  • Perspective: The other mother POV we see from her, know its her by the needle hands.
  • Use of close up shot - makes audience focus on the doll not on the creator.
  • Lighting / colours - Dim, dark, green, faded, - Sets the mood / atmosphere that its old, building looked abandoned, unappealing and run down.

Setting - Pink palace - real world

  • Music - Sounds happy, gentle, harmony, chanting, sung by children, lyrics in a made up language, makes calm happy atmosphere. Changes to increase fension - faster, louder, miner
  • Coraline - Sassy, moody, stubborn, bright colours - blue hair, yellow jacket and boots. main character makes us focus, shows shes different from these in the real world.
  • Colour / lighting - Dull grey, boring, dark, bland, tinted, makes the 'real house' feel depressing, old, crusty + cold, not a place Coraline wants to be
  • 'Real parents' - Dull, workaholics, dont have time for Coraline, not happy, depressed, tired
The 'Other World':

  • Music - Spooky music, doesn't match what we are seeing, slow to medium pace, minor, quiet
  • Colour / lighting - Bright, vibrant, warm, welcoming - makes it feel inviting and safe, Coraline doesn't stand out anymore
  • Other parents - Fun, active, show Coraline attention, energetic, cooked her nice meals, they look happy & healthy unlike the real parents.

The 'real' neighbours:

  • Colour - Greys, dark, mournful, sad colours - pallets, foggy, washed out, rundown, dusty, sticky
  • Lighting - Dark/gloomy - inside house cold light, Shobby, dark, poor
  • Music - Bland, background, medium, latin skyk, upbeat, movement
  • Setting - Forest looks dead, house is old, rustic, rundown, basement, theateroom, used to be fashionable, now is dated
  • Characters - Mr Bobinsky - Russian 'drunk' - awkward, weirdo, Miss Spink & Miss forceable - the argue, opporites but like same thing, actress, old fashioned, confident, attention - speakers, Coraline doesn't like them but better than nothing
The 'other' neighbours:

  • Colour - Bright, light, friendly, welcoming, good dark, , shiny, bright, vibrant
  • Lighting - Warm light - orange/yellow, warm light - spotlights are bright
  • Music - Loud, joyful, circus music, playful, energetic, brass
  • Setting - Garden alive, house is painted/looks new, apartment looked colourful, clean, organised, thearters, grand, large, posh, good condition
  • Characters - Mr B - clean/tidy/done-up, healthy blue, nice to Coraline - gets her name right, Miss Spink & Miss forceable - transformed, young, thin, attractive, talented actress/acrobatics, modern, Coraline likes them, is enthusiastic to have them as neighbours
The Beldams

  • Colours - Dark, greens, colour, colourful, purple, pink, neon's that show in the dark, fades to white
  • Lighting - Dark, cold, unsafe, horrific,
  • Music - Slower, quiet, menacing, creepy, spooky, other world, suspicious
  • Setting - Chocolate & furniture, wore beetles, sinister, transformed from the perfect home to a spider web - polluted

Different film shots

For the last few weeks or so we have been learning about camera shots, camera angles and camera movements and the definition of each one. For this weeks task I had to made a google doc and wrote down every camera shots, camera angles and camera movements, then I had to write the definition for each beside it. After that I got to chose 1 of these 2 activitys and they were to get photographic and go outside to take photos showing the camera techniques listed above. Present these in a fun way on your blog. The second one is to create a visual dictionary where you have a photo showing the definition of each concept. I chose the second one because it looked really fun to do. Here is the camera angles, shots and movement and the definitions.

Camera shots

  • Extreme close up - The extreme close up puts the camera right up in your face your it can just be looking right at your eye or one part of your body.
  • Close up - The close up puts the camera right near your face so it can see your whole head and shoulders or an another particular part of your body
  • Over the shoulder - Over the shoulder is when the camera is looking over someones should and is listening to there conversation
  • Medium long shot - Medium long shot is where the camera is looking at the two people that are talking in the film or when its showing the one person and some of the background
  • Medium shot - The medium shot is when the camera is looking at you from your head down to your waist
  • Long (wide) shot - The long wide shot is when the camera is up in the air and the camera is quiet far away looking at the scene
  • Extreme long shot -  The extreme long shot is when the camera is looking at the scene far away but can see it very well

Camera angles

  • High angle - Camera shot from above the subject looking down but on a angle
  • Dutch tilt - When camera is on a horizontal angle looking at the people or something in the film
  • Low angle - Camera shot on the ground but looking up at the scene
  • Bird eye view - The photo or video taken above the scene looking down at the people / person or an object
  • Point of view - The viewer looking at something or looking at an object or its like a camera in the eye looking at something or an object
  • Eye level - The camera looking at the same level as the person’s eye or just like the person’s eye looking at something.

Camera movement

  • Medium close up - The camera looking at the persons face more clearly but without not getting comfortablely close
  • Pan - The camera rotating on its horizontal or vertical angle in order to keep a moving person or object in view
  • Tilt - The camera is on a lean just like a tilt but still looking at the person or object
  • Tracking - The video or shot taken anywhere the camera follows backwards, forward or moving sideways
  • Mise en scene - Everything getting put into a scene including music and camera angles/angles
Montage A technique in film editing in which a series of short shots are edited into a sequence to condense space, time, and information.

Film Crossword

Last week our teacher Miss Abernethy was talking a little bit about different languages in films. Then there were 2 different activitys that we could do within that period, the 2 activitys were to create your own language of film dictionary and explain what they are, and how they are used to create effect in a film. Then the other one was to create a crossword where the clues are the definitions for each of the terms above. There were 14 terms and they are called Body Language, Costumes, Hairstyles, Make-Up, Colour, Lighting, Props, Setting, Dialogue, Sound Effects, Music, Silence, Symbles and Special Effects. After that I made my crossword and this is what it turned out like.

Our teacher asked us to answer these questions that they wanted us to do about this work that I have been doing. Here are the questions and answers.

What am I learning?

I am learning about how to do a film study and to learn about all of the different camera angles, different camera shots and all of the different camera movements

How does this work show my learning?

It shows my learning when I have put the word and the meaning when I was making it because it also shows that I have done it.

What am I wondering as a result of this learning?

What I was wondering was that yay it worked because It turned out better that I thought it would.

My Strength Poster

Today in Homeroom we have been looking at our strengths and what they are. For the first activity we got 2 pieces of paper and there were like 25 strengths on it but we could only chose one. What my 5 strengths are love of learning, bravery, creativity, curiosity and humour. After that we had to make a poster about them strengths and so here is my poster.
