Business Studies - Opportunity Cost

On Friday we were learning about opportunity cost and what that means is you have a couple of options and the second one that you have left out is opportunity cost. Here is an example Sarah only has 1 hour until bedtime. You can read a book, play a game or bake a cake. She picks to play a game and the second choice is opportunity cost which was to read a book. After we learnt all of that there was an activity that we had to complete within that lesson. What we had to do was to make a powtoon to show the scenario and what Sarah opportunity cost is.

Here are some screenshots of my powtoon

Workshop 1: Unpacking themes and ideas?

Theme/Idea: Something that links throughout the story.
Looks can be deceiving
- Things aren't always what they seem

Example 1: The deldam / The other matter
- She starts off good / kind but is revealed to be an evil soul devouring metal spider demon.
- Shows theme because the other mother changes gradually over time so that Coraline & audience dont notice
- Important to the story because helps the audience understand Coralines choice when she realises that having everything perfect wont make her happy.

Example 2: Other world vs Real world
- The other world is a perfect web / trap to catch Coraline, where as the real world is boring but safe.
- Shows theme because even though the other world seems better in every way, the real world is actually better/safer because it isn't a trap
- Important to help audience understand why Coraline goes back to the real world

SEXXY paragraph:
Statement - In Coraline, themes and ideas are used effectively.
Evidence - For instance, the theme 'looks can be deceiving' is shown through the character of the 'Other mother' starts kind, but is revealed to be  soul devouring demon.
eXplanation - audience - This makes the audience feel that we shouldn't trust things or people that seem perfect at first glance.
eXplanation - director - This was done to make the audience feel weary or develop a sense of caution towards new situations
- Coinciding with this is the use of colour to show the other mother to becoming more evil. At tje start she is surrounded by warm colours that make us feel safe, but by the end it is dark with neon green which makes her seem dangerous.
Your link - This theme is also shown through the changes in the 'other world' as it is revealed to be a spider web designed to catch Coraline.

Science - Hand making

Today in Science we have been learning about bones and what they do and ect... In Science we have a big plastic skeleton and our teacher was showing us what bone was what. After that we had 2 options they were to make a blog post and talk about what a hand does and ect.. or to make a hand showing what it does. I chose to make the hand and so I did it. Once it was finished we had to make a blog post and answer some questions so thats what I am doing now.

Explain how the hand moves and how your model shows this...
  • The hand moves by pulling the strings aka muscles for the fingures to move. The string represents the muscle and the straws represents the bones that are in the hand.
Tendons:

  • Tendons allow you to bend your fingures and they are tissue that connect muscles to bone. Tendons pull on bones.
Ligaments:

Ligaments attached bone to bone

Cartilage:

Cartilage stops the 2 bones from rubbing against each other

Here is the photo of the hand I made

Home Economics - Pikelets

Yesterday in HE we made pikelets and they were delicious. First when we got there we put our aprons on and got our container and ect.... to get ready for the session. After all that we got our mese on play done which means we have all of our ingredients ready on the table. After that we read the recipe to see what we need to do today. Here is the recipe of the piklets.

INGREDIENTS
1 cup plain flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup milk

METHOD
Sift the flour, baking powder and the salt into a bowl. In another bowl beat the egg and sugar with a whisk until pale and thick. Add the egg mixture and the milk to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Gently heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat and add or brush with a little melted butter. Drop tablespoonfuls of the mixture from the point of the spoon onto the surface. When bubbles start to burst on the top of the pikelets, turn them over and cook the second side until golden. Place on cooling rack to keep cool. Last serve with a sweet or savoury topping

Here is a photo copie of the recipe.

Here are the photos of the process.

2020's Decade Work

For the last few weeks in Wanaga our teacher introduced us into a literacy checklist where it has different activitys that we can complete. First the whole class started on the decade work and we had to be in a group of 2. Next we had to pick a decade and so Evan and I picked 2020 because why not. After that we had to follow a slideshow of what we had to answer on our slideshow. Here is our slideshow.

HE - Chocolate Chip Cookies

Yesterday in HE we made chocolate chip cookies and they were delicious. First when we got to the cooking room we got our containers and then washed our hands as per usual and washed our table and ect... Then we started looking at the recipe to see what we needed. After that we did the mese on play which means we got all of the ingredients and then put them all up onto the table nicely. Unfortunate I forgot to take a photo of the mese on play but I did take photos of the baking process. Then we Started doing out thing and started making the chocolate chip cookies. After that we did the dishes and waited and waited for the cookies to cook then they were ready, and then we took them out and waited for them to cool down. The product looked good but we didn't mix in the sugar so they were very sweet, and so they looked very crumbly but they still did taste amazing. Here is the recipe for the chocolate chip cookies.

The recipe makes 15 but we only made 12 cookies for 3 each person in group.

100g butter
1/2 cup Chelsea white sugar
1/2 cup Chelsea soft brown sugar
1 eggs
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 1/2 cups flour
pinch of salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cups chocolate chips

Method:
Melt butter, and add both sugars and cream these together. Beat in the eggs and vanilla then mix in the dry ingredients. Roll into medium sized balls, making sure the mixture is not too wet! Put on a well greased baking tray. The shouldn't spread too much so flatten slightly. Bake at 180 for 8-10 minutes

Tips: You can easily half this recipe. Or roll half into a log, wrap in cling film and freeze. Cut into 15 pieces while still frozen and bake.

Here is the photos of the baking that we did.

Coraline Notes

Today in literacy we were just making notes about Coraline and what happened in each part of the movie. Here are the notes that I have wrote from today's lesson.

Opening Scene:

  • Music - Sounds quiet creepy and it also sounds like a music box or child's. There are also some lyrics that say dreaming over and over again. At the start the music gets quiet and then louder.
  • Perspective: The other mother POV we see from her, know its her by the needle hands.
  • Use of close up shot - makes audience focus on the doll not on the creator.
  • Lighting / colours - Dim, dark, green, faded, - Sets the mood / atmosphere that its old, building looked abandoned, unappealing and run down.

Setting - Pink palace - real world

  • Music - Sounds happy, gentle, harmony, chanting, sung by children, lyrics in a made up language, makes calm happy atmosphere. Changes to increase fension - faster, louder, miner
  • Coraline - Sassy, moody, stubborn, bright colours - blue hair, yellow jacket and boots. main character makes us focus, shows shes different from these in the real world.
  • Colour / lighting - Dull grey, boring, dark, bland, tinted, makes the 'real house' feel depressing, old, crusty + cold, not a place Coraline wants to be
  • 'Real parents' - Dull, workaholics, dont have time for Coraline, not happy, depressed, tired
The 'Other World':

  • Music - Spooky music, doesn't match what we are seeing, slow to medium pace, minor, quiet
  • Colour / lighting - Bright, vibrant, warm, welcoming - makes it feel inviting and safe, Coraline doesn't stand out anymore
  • Other parents - Fun, active, show Coraline attention, energetic, cooked her nice meals, they look happy & healthy unlike the real parents.

The 'real' neighbours:

  • Colour - Greys, dark, mournful, sad colours - pallets, foggy, washed out, rundown, dusty, sticky
  • Lighting - Dark/gloomy - inside house cold light, Shobby, dark, poor
  • Music - Bland, background, medium, latin skyk, upbeat, movement
  • Setting - Forest looks dead, house is old, rustic, rundown, basement, theateroom, used to be fashionable, now is dated
  • Characters - Mr Bobinsky - Russian 'drunk' - awkward, weirdo, Miss Spink & Miss forceable - the argue, opporites but like same thing, actress, old fashioned, confident, attention - speakers, Coraline doesn't like them but better than nothing
The 'other' neighbours:

  • Colour - Bright, light, friendly, welcoming, good dark, , shiny, bright, vibrant
  • Lighting - Warm light - orange/yellow, warm light - spotlights are bright
  • Music - Loud, joyful, circus music, playful, energetic, brass
  • Setting - Garden alive, house is painted/looks new, apartment looked colourful, clean, organised, thearters, grand, large, posh, good condition
  • Characters - Mr B - clean/tidy/done-up, healthy blue, nice to Coraline - gets her name right, Miss Spink & Miss forceable - transformed, young, thin, attractive, talented actress/acrobatics, modern, Coraline likes them, is enthusiastic to have them as neighbours
The Beldams

  • Colours - Dark, greens, colour, colourful, purple, pink, neon's that show in the dark, fades to white
  • Lighting - Dark, cold, unsafe, horrific,
  • Music - Slower, quiet, menacing, creepy, spooky, other world, suspicious
  • Setting - Chocolate & furniture, wore beetles, sinister, transformed from the perfect home to a spider web - polluted

A Girl Cornered in a Parallel World, in Henry Selick's Animated ...
