English - 30 Second Film

For the last 3 periods of English we have been making a 30 second film for English. In the first period our teachers showed us about 9 things we could do the 30 second film about and they were getting an award at a ceremony, sneaking into the library, stealing a book and getting caught, retrieving a ball kicked into a bush, getting sent to referral, studying for / sitting and getting a grade back on a test, scoring and winning goal in a sports match, witnessing and stepping in to stop a bullying incident, making the perfect tik tok - from practice to publish or getting distracted / falling asleep during class. My group did the retrieving a ball kicked into a bush one but we changed it up a bit by playing passes and then it gets thrown in the bush and we did it from there. Here is the 30 second video that we made.

What was your film about?

The film is about Jayden and Jared are throwing the tennis ball to each other and then the ball gets lost inside a bush, Then Jayden walks to get the ball from the bush and Peni jumps out and grabs Jayden and drags him on the ground, Jared runs and tackles Peni to the ground and then Peni rolls Jared on his back and beats him up.

Something I enjoyed in making my film?

What I enjoyed was filming the film and working with my friends because we had a lot of laughs when Peni was acting to be a pedo.

Something I learned when making my film?

What I learned was how hard it was to do the film the way we actually wanted it to do including all of the angles and shots.

Some film techniques I included were?

The film techniques we included were the long wide shot, POV, Tilt, Medium shot and the close up shot

Something I found challenging was?

What I found challenging the most was actually finding where to do the 30 second film because we couldn't find the right bush and place to do it in

What I would do differently next time?

Next time we could add more shots and angles to make the film more interesting and to add more people into it.

Sustainability Hurumanu - Research on Giant Pandas

For the last like 4 weeks in Hurumanu 1 we have been writing our essays about sustainability, the research Ive been researching about Giant Pandas going extinct. In essays you should have an introduction, 3 paragraphs and a conclusion. First I researched what are the causes, effects and solutions on how to make Giant Pandas not extinct. Then I put that information into a google slide to make your structure to make it easier to make your essay.

Here is my slideshow:

Then we had to write our essay into our own words and here it is.

Introduction:
Endangered animals are important because they are dying and getting killed of deforestation and habitat destruction.

Causes of Giant Pandas becoming extinct:
Pandas population have been lowered because of habitat destruction. Pandas habitats get taken over by development which means it is pushing pandas into smaller and liveable places. Habitat destruction can also means there is not much food which means their won’t be much food for them to eat. Pandas eat many types of bamboo that bloom at different times of the year. If one type of bamboo is destroyed by development from people which means it can leave the pandas with nothing to have or eat. It can make a risk of starvation for the giant pandas. People go hunting for giant pandas for their fur to make clothes and other things.
Effects on Giant Pandas going extinct:
Giant pandas die because of all sorts of things, one of them is deforestation and that is because it destroys and takes away the bamboo so then they cannot eat and they will die from starvation. Giant pandas also die because people destroy their habitat by taking all of the bamboo so then they have a livable home to live in. If they don’t have anything to eat and somewhere to live then they will die and become extinct.
How can we stop this:

Giant Pandas have lost their habitats because of deforestation and deforestation destroyed and took away bamboo so then the giant pandas couldn't eat and could die from starvation. But some government’s has worked to restore and protect pandas bamboo habitats and it has shown positive and good results. People can donate and restore bamboo for the pandas so they can live.
Here are some websites about giant pandas going extinct.

Business Studies - Innovation Challenge

This week in Business Studies we have been learning about Innovation. First our teacher got us to do was to brainstorm all the ways you could use a paperclip. Then she got us to answer these questions, Did you make any changes to the paperclip itself? If you did then you were being innovative. Did you change its size, shape, what it is made from? One more minute to see if you can come up with any more ideas. This is what innovators do!! After she introduced us into this Innovation challenge and it has 9 questions to answer and do. Here are the questions.

Here are my answers to these questions.

1.

Coins - Reserve Bank of New Zealand

2.

This product is money coins and you can use it in many ways. You use this product by buying things with it or you could bank that money so you can save to get more money so then you can buy something you really want. What I don’t like about this product are the pictures that are on it and I don’t really like the colours.

3.

The colour of the coins could be changed like to a different colour because I don’t like the colour bronze or silver. But I do get that they use the colour gold, silver and bronze because gold is more expensive and worthy and then it goes silver and then bronze, also the colours are used for events for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, 1st = gold, 2nd = silver, 3rd = bronze. I would also like the coins to be more worthy or less worthy by changing the numbers like a 60cent coin or a $25 coin or a 15cent coin and ect…

4.
That coins actually add up quite a bit when you are saving because people think that 10cents and 20cents isn't much when you save it, it actually adds up quiet a bit. That coins are actually easier to collect than notes because coins lay around everywhere from people and they fall out of peoples pockets when sitting down so then coins can go down the couch.

5.
You could take the pictures off of the coins and then you could put a picture of the prime minister of that country to make it more valuable. You could make the coins different shapes and sizes and you could make more coins but different colours and a different value on them like 25cents or 75cents to make it so you don’t have to carry more coins

6.

You could make them bigger and smaller but if they were to go to smaller they would me easier to lose. If they were to go to big they might not be able to fit in your wallet so then their wouldn't be any point keeping them unless you bank it.

7.

No because it is already user friendly for people to use it easy and it is easy for people to understand how to use it.

8.

There are really not much disadvantages on my changes on the product or any advantages.

HE - Stir Fry

Last week in cooking we made Stir Fry, first when I got into the kitchen I got my apron on and sprayed the table and ect for my group to get ready for the lesson. After all of that was finished we got into our group and read the recipe. After that we got our mese on play ready and started making the stir fry.

Ingredients:
70g chicken (1breast)
1 carrot
1 onion
3-4 pieces of broccoli
1 zucchini2T sesame oil
1 pkt 2min noodles

Method:
1. Chop up chicken into strips
2. Place in glass bowl with sesame oil
3. Chop up vegetables in julienne strips
4. Saute chicken and onions together, Saute means to brown
5. Add broccoli and carrots and cook for 5 minutes
6. Add remaining vegetables of your choice and cook for a further 5 minutes
7. Boil a pot of water
8. Place the broken noodles into the boiling water and cook for 2 minutes
9. Drain noodles in a colander and add to the vegetable and chicken mixture
10. Serve

Sensory evaluation:

Smell: It smelt fresh but strong
Taste: It was salty and tangy
Sight: It looked like a golden brown colour

Rating from 1 - 5:

Probably 4 out of 5 because some colours like red were missing and some flavours but it was still delicious

What I would do differently: I would add more colours and flavours to just give it an extra taste

Our team worked well although Tobey and I did most of the work because the other 2 people in our group was mucking around and eating some of the veggies why we were cooking.

Science - Testing Experiments

This week in Science we have been learning about nutrition and digestion. At the start of every lesson we do Quizlet.com for about 15mins to learn about the topic before we do a experiment, also sometimes we do a test at the start of every topic. On Tuesday we have been looking at what are nutrients and here are some of the nutrients: carbohydrates, proteins, lipids (fats and oils), minerals, vitamins and fibre. After that we looked at what each one of those things are and what they do. Then we were looking at what are complex and simple sugars, what are carbohydrates, what are proteins and what are lipids. After we learnt all of that we did a experiment where we had to test food, liquids then we had to see if they are complex sugars or not. The food we are testing are bread, egg white, milk, apple, sugar, potato. Next we had to get into a group of 2 to do the experiment and my partner was Gerald. Then we got the equipment  so we needed a test tubes, a test tube rack, iodine and the food/liquids.

Experiment 1 - Tuesday

Once we got the equipment we got the test tube and we put it into the test tube rack, next we got the first food item and it was the bread. Then we put about 5 drops of iodine into the test tube and to know if it is complex sugars or not it would have changed colour to black but if it isn't complex it would not have changed colour. Then we had to empty out the test tube into the sink but during the experiment if you got iodine onto your skin you had to wash it off with cold water because iodine in quiet dangerous. Next we had to do the same thing with the rest of the food and liquids. By the end of the experiment we should of had the result written down on a peice of paper.

Results:

Bread - Complex
Apple - Non complex
Potato - Complex
Sugar - Non complex
Egg white - Complex
Milk - Complex

Experiment 2 - Friday

On Friday we did the same thing as Tuesday were we had to do the quizlet and then we got the equipment ready for the experiment. For this experiment it is the same as Tuesday's but we are seeing what food or liquid is a simple sugar or not. Here are the results we got.

Results:

Milk - Simple
Egg white - Simple
Bread - Non simple
Sugar - Simple
Apple - Non simple
Potato - Non simple

Experiment 3 - Friday

After we finished the 2nd experiment on Friday we did the 3rd experiment it is the same one but we were seeing if the food and liquids had protein in it or not. We got the equipment and stuff ready for the experiment just like normal and then we got into it. It was so satisfying because the liquids turned purple straight away and if they turn purple it means there is protein. Here are the results we got.

Results:

Bread - Has some protein
Egg white - Protein
Milk - Protein
Apple - Non protein
Sugar - Non protein
Potato - Non protein

Here are the photos of some of the equipment and results:
