Home Economics - Ginger Bread Men

Last week in Home Economics we got to pick what we wanted to make for our kiwi baker work. I chose ginger bread men because I din't know what else to make cause I wanted to make something hard and so I didn't know any recipes that could be made within an hour. So what I had to do was I sended the recipe to Mrs Hindson our teacher for cooking and she had to print it off for when I start making the ginger bread men. Not everyone could make their own recipe because there isn't enough workstations for everybody but mine got excepted because from past experiences when I made them at home for over the holidays from coronavirus. When we got to cooking on Thursday the week after that I got my recipe and then washed hands and everything else like per usual. Then I got the ingredients for the dough for the ginger bread men, I could only make the dough at school because the dough needs to cool down in the fridge for another half an hour and ect... Here is the recipe for the ginger bread men dough.

2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1tbsp ground ginger
1 cup soft brown sugar
150g butter, cubbed
1 egg
1tbsp golden syrup

Method:
Place the flour, baking soda, ginger and brown sugar in a bowl or food processor. Add the butter and rub in with fingertips or pulse in food processor until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add egg and golden syrup and stiror pulse to mix. If the dough is sticky, add a little more flour until it forms a workable dough. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

If you want the full recipe here is the link.

Sustainability Hurumanu 1 - Semesta 2

For the last 6 weeks in Sustainability we have been learning about sustainability. For the first week in Sustainability we watched a couple of documentary's on Netflix about Covid 19 because this was the first week back from Coronavirus, I didn't watch much because I fell asleep. After we finished watching them documentary's it was period 4 so we didn't have time to do anything else. The 2nd week of Sustainability we have been learning about statistical inquiry and what that means is that the statistical inquiry cycle helps you to get data. For that week we made a storie and we made that storie into a graph chart, I chose to do a pie graph because it was the easiest one to do. My pie chart was about console games and so we wrote games down and went around asking people what one they wanted to chose. The highest console game picked was call of duty. The 3rd week we were learning about natural resources and sustainability. What we did was we went through the google slide with activitys that we had to do and then we had to sort out what the meaning of sustainability resources are because they were scrambled. The 4th week we watched a few videos of this guy talking about writing and the joy of writing. The 5th week we were looking at writing and research on sustainability issues. First we were looking at 12 ways on how to start a sentence for writing and we were also looking at 8 ways of handy paragraphs. Then we were using the paragraph card structure to record our research on sustainability issues and we went to the library to look at different forms of information. Then in week 6 we were looking at area, population and calculations. So what we did was we learnt some core mathematical skills to apply our understanding of sustainability.

 Reflection on my learning.

What did you take away from this course?

I took away on how to start a sentence for a paragraphs and I also learnt how to record research with the paragraph card structure.

What did you enjoy?

What I enjoyed was making the graph with the information, I also enjoyed listening to music and eating while doing our work as long as we get the work done.

What suggestions for change do you have?

To learn more about maths because I am quiet bad at it.

Here is some of the work that I have completed.

SEXXXY Paragraphs:

In the film, the shot is a long (wide) shot to show the whole bedroom in the 'real world'. This is demonstrated by showing that the bedroom is filled with alot of dull and not joyable things to do in the bedroom. It also lookes very dull and not as pretty as a girls bedroom in reality. This makes the audience feel as if the 'real parents' really want the 'real world' to be not perfect and not colourful for her so that she can be not filled with happiness. The director did this to show that the 'real world' is a plain and cold bedroom but the 'other world' to seem perfect and amazing so the audience doesn't expect this to be a trap. This worked well with the music which is played as we were introduced to the bedroom. This can be contrasted to the house in the real world which shows and gives no feelings to the unexciting colours.

In the film, the shot is a long (wide) shot to show the whole kitchen in the 'other world'. This is demonstrated by showing that the kitchen is filled with alot of colours and it actually looks like it is a quiet warm kitchen to be in. This makes the audience feel as if they want to be there because it is a nice place to be in. It also makes the audience think that the 'other parents' makes the kitchen and the house good for Coraline. The director did this to show that the 'other world' is actually a really great place with alot of nice and awesome colours but it is unsafe in reality. This worked well with the 'other mother' because her personality is basically the same because she is nice and colourful like the 'other house' but near the end of the film she becomes evil. This can be contrasted to the house in the 'other world' which shows the feeling to the exciting colours.

In this shot of Coraline, a medium shot is used to show the detail of the Coraline doll. We see this when the Beldam is letting the We see this when the Beldam is letting go of the doll which will be swept into the real world. This makes the audience theorise where the doll could be going or what its meaning is. The purpose of this was to give the audience a chance to theorise what meaning the doll has to the film. Combined with the eerie music which is played to make the scene already mysterious and more creepy makes it work well with the doll. This can be compared to a time later in the movie when Coraline first comes across the tunnel to the "other world' although there is spiritual music being played still it gives the audience the chance to theories the meaning of the tunnel.
