Dodgeball

Today we had 3 topics to write about that we have done in PE this year. The options were Dodgeball or maths and I chose maths. Once we have picked 1 of the topics we had to write the rules, How to play, Clever tips and equipment. After that we have to answer the questions about the maths or dodgeball. Here is what we have been doing.

Equipment:

  • 10 Round flat cones
  • 10 soft or dodgeball balls
  • 2 teams of as much players as you want (More players the better)
Rules:

  • If you get hit with the ball shoulders down you are out
  • You can go past half way of the court or field to get someone out
  • If you get out go out be "honest"
  • You can't kick the ball to get someone out
The object of the game is to get as much players out as possible

How to play:

  • Split your players into 2 teams
  • In the middle of the court or field place your cones in a line and place a ball on top of it
  • 1 team on one side of the court or field and the 2nd team on the other side
  • Run to the middle of court or field and get a ball and start getting people out.

Maths interchange

For the last 2 days in maths interchange we have been problem solving some questions about worms and seagulls in a paddock. We have been working is groups of 4 to complete these questions. Our teacher wroted questions on the board about problem solving.

What was the activity?

The activity was seeing how much worms would the seagulls eat to be full. This is one of the questions.

It has been raining in a paddock 273 worms have come to the surface. The seagulls are gathering. Gulls are satisfied if they eat 11 worms in one sitting, How many gulls can be satisfied by the worms in the paddock.

What strategy did your group try?

My group tried 273 divide by 11 and we counted in 11's to get the answer. The answer was 25 and there was 7 worms extra left.

What did you find challenging?

I found challenging was doing all the work by myself because they wernt helping.

How well did your group work together? Were you successful?

We were successful by getting the work done on time and getting the answers. We were successful and not successful because we weren't doing team work and they did help with some of the questions. We were successful because we got the work done.

Flow chart of my design process

Today in digital tech we had to make a flow chart about the issue we have created. It also explains what I am making and what my issue is. A flow chart is like when you are designing something you have all different steps to make it successful.  Here is my flow chart.

Digital Technology

In digital technology we had to choose out of an social, environmental and a ethical issue. Then we had to make 3 questions about that issue my issue is how to stop humans from filling the world with trash. Here are my questions that I have chosen.

What category does your issue fall under?

Social                     Environmental                   Ethical
What specifically is your issue (e.g. Global Warming, Pollution of NZ waterways, etc)

Picking up litter can make our community clean and it can kill animals.
Why is this issue important to you?

Because
Your Focusing Questions

Resource 1 (first website, video, or source of info)

Resource 2 (second website, video, or source of info)
Resource 3 (third website, video, or source of info)
Who/what does

Picking up litter can affect?
Around 12,000 men, women and children got to work cleaning Britain’s streets and litter and rubbish can kill animals.

Beaches and all different areas are nationwide. When people do beach or river clean-ups they always make sure that the volunteers carry a non plastic bag to carry the waste and they provide them with lunch wrapped in banana leaves and remind them to bring tumblers to show there are alternatives to plastic
In india a man called afroz shah and he has cleared 9,000 tons of trash from different beaches.

He says he loves beaches and he is scared that it is going to destroy the earth. The average American produces about 130 pounds of trash a month, and an article in the journal Nature estimates that global solid-waste generation will triple, to 11 million tons a day, by 2100.

We already turn water bottles into fleece, plastic bags into deck material, roofing into pavement. But ideas abound for more-futuristic forms of recycling. Mitchell Joachim, a co-founder of Terreform one, a design firm based in New York, proposes crushing trash and molding it into Tetris‑esque blocks that we could use to build islands and skyscrapers.

Question 1

How to Stop Humans From Filling the World With Trash?
There are a lot of items that we use everyday and then get rid of them by throwing them in the garbage. Unfortunately, this results in a pile of garbage as we throw old items, as well as packaging of new items. Reducing solid waste is reducing the amount of trash that goes to landfills. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle are most common methods to reduce landfill waste.

While most of us may consider ourselves to be adept at conserving and recycling, the truth is that the average American makes far more trips to landfills every year than you might think. While all of us probably believe that recycling and reusing things is a good thing, it’s a question of whether or not we actually carry it out.

A landfill site not only has a bad effect on the tourism industry but also badly pollutes clean water and air. Polluted air and water has a negative effect on the health of humans, animals and marine life. Here are 15 useful steps you can take to ensure that you make fewer trips to the landfill each year.

Question 2

(How does litter and rubbish hurt and kill animals)
Plastic waste suffocates, disables and kills thousands of animals each year. Litter is dirty and spoils our environment. Turtles, seals, birds and dolphins often mistake plastic waste for food. ... If they eat too much plastic, their stomachs always feel full, so they don't eat anything else.

Image result for How does litter and rubbish hurt and kill animals

Turtles, seals, birds and dolphins often mistake plastic waste for food. Plastic bags floating in the water can look like jellyfish, for example. After animals eat plastic, their intestines get blocked and their normal food can’t be digested properly. If they eat too much plastic, their stomachs always feel full, so they don’t eat anything else. Eventually they can starve to death. Plastic also contains lots of nasty chemicals that can poison animals and cause internal injuries. In India, 20 cows die every day because they have eaten plastic bags; and most sea birds on the planet already have some plastic pieces in their stomachs. The chemicals in the plastic eaten by fish and other animals are passed up the food chain to other creatures, and even to humans.

Here is a video of what rubbish does to our community and to our animals?

Animals often get entangled in plastic bags. This means they can suffocate, starve or drown. It also makes it easier for predators to catch them. Plastic bags constrict an animal’s movement which means they can get exhausted, or sometimes develop an infection from wounds caused by material wrapped around them. Plastic packaging can sink to the ocean floor, get wrapped around and smother coral reefs. Inland, plastic blocks drains, allowing mosquitoes to breed and spread dengue fever.
(Here is a link to a website to tell you about what rubbish does to our animals and our country)

Question 3

(Why is litter a problem?)
Litter is is what we call trash when it ends up outside a bin or landfill.
Litter is bad for animals and people. Plastic waste suffocates, disables and kills thousands of animals each year. Litter is dirty and spoils our environment.

Some animals are attracted to areas with lots of litter. They find their food among the trash and can pick up germs and become carriers for diseases that may make people sick.Litter is bad for the environment. It wastes our natural resources.

Litter consists of trash and household toxic substances that are improperly disposed of on land or in water. Whether the litter is intentional or unintentional, large or small, it can drastically affect the environment for years to come. Before carelessly tossing another item out the window or looking the other way when someone else does, consider the impact you can make on the environment by recycling, reusing and disposing of waste properly.

CIP Passion Projects

Today in CIP we have been told to do a blog post about the colouring in competition that the 3 classes have created. The teachers told us to answer these questions below.

What have we been looking at? Why have we been leaning this?

We have been looking at mindfulness colouring because we want to give things to people and make people happy

What passions did you participate in? Tell us what you did during these sessions. Did you enjoy it?

I participated in gym sports and in gym sports we did warm ups for about 20min and then stretches for about another 20min and then fitness games for the other 20min so we do it for an hour. I enjoyed it but for the warm ups it was very tiering.

What passions would you like to see us offer next term?

Next term I would like to do cooking and art passions because I like doing them in my own time.

Tapu Ae

Today in PE we had to answer some questions about the game we played called Tapu Ae. Here are the questions we had to answer.

What is Tapu Ae?

Its a Maori game that you can play anywhere if you have the equipment

What are some of the basic rules?

The guardian protects the tupu and tries to stop the other team from knocking the balls off the cones. The guardian must stop the ball with their knees NOT with their hands. You can hit the ball out of the opponents hands. You MUST only have 2 people on each side of the court

What is some of the te reo Maori tupu that we talked about?

Ki ( The ball )
Te Ao ( The zones )
Poi ( The court )
Papa Tākaro ( The playing fields )
What was your role in your team for these games?

My role was a referee and a Ref refs the game and if they have done something wrong They tell them and if they have scored. A referee also whistles throughout the game if something has happened.

What did you enjoy the most about the game?

What I enjoyed the most was trying to hit the ball off the cones and at the start of the game where the 2 people jumped up.

What were some of the drawbacks that you can think of?

That when you ask for the ball they wont give it to you and some people wernt helping the person when they did something wrong so we losed 1 game. The second game we won.

What could your team do better next time you play?

More team work and more helping people when they made a mistake.
