Home Economics - Cupcakes

Today in Home Economics we have baked cupcakes. First when we got in the kitchen we washed our hands and then we put our apron on like we always do. After that we washed our table and then got our recipe and started reading it. Then we got all of the ingredients in their little and big bowls and then got them organised on the table nicely. Next we started making the cupcakes, here is a recipe of the cupcakes.

125g butter
3/4 c of sugar
1t of vanilla essence
2 eggs (Size 7)
1 1/2 c of plain flour
2 t of baking powder
1/2 cup of milk

First we creamed the butter in a large bowl with a wooden spoon. Then we added the sugar and continued creaming until light and fluffy in texture. Next we added the vanilla essence and beat briefly. After that add eggs one at a time, beat well after you have added each egg. Sift flour and baking powder onto a large plate. After that using a rubber scraper, scrape all the mixture off the wooden spoon. Then add 1/3 sifted flour, baking powder mix and fold in half of the milk using the rubber scraper. After that Repeat step 7 for the next 1/3 flour mix and the rest of the milk. Do not over mix. Add the last of the flour and gently fold this into the cake batter. Carefully spoon cake batter evenly into 12 paper cases. Bake at 180C for 7 min then turn oven to fan bake for a another 6 - 8 min. After that put your cupcakes into the fridge to cool down.

Here is the photo of the whole recipe that we did used.

Here are the pictures of the cupcakes during the making.

Here are pictures after the cupcakes were cooked.

Buttercream / Viema cream

50g of Margarine / Butter
100g - 150g icing sugar
Flavouring (Essence)
Food colouring

Cream together margarine, icing sugar, flavouring and the food colouring. Spread icing onto cooled cupcakes and decorate with sprinkles or any sweets if available.

My group chose to chose the colour pink because we thought it would be very nice and the flavouring we chose orange because our teacher said that is the best one and it taste so good.

  1. Hi Tyson. Very good use of photos in your Cupcake Blog Post. I am pleased to see the Cupcakes recipe, and showed the sequence from the start to the finished, decorated product. What flavour icing did you use? How did the Cupcakes taste, what was their texture like, colour, smell etc?
