In the weekend

Today in period 3 our teacher Mrs Hastie said that we are going to write a 300 word story for this period to do. Then Mrs Hastie wrote some things on the board to write about and I chose to write about this weekend.

In the weekend Cody is going to stay for night on Saturday.  On Saturday at about 9:00am I am going to scooter over to his house and pick him up. After that we might bike and scooter back to my house or his mum will drop us off.

When we get to my house Cody and I will go and do something before we go to my sister’s softball. At about 10:00am my Mum, Tim (Mums Boyfriend), my sister, Cody and I will go to hagley park to watch half of my sisters game of softball for about 30mins or so.  After that we are going to go to Hanmer Springs for the afternoon and for tea. When we get there we are going to the pools and get hydroslide passes. Then we will go in the super bowl hydroslide and then the new hydroslide that has been built. I did some research and it cost about 4.5 million dollars which is quite expensive. The reason we are not going on the new hydroslide because there will prob be a big line. After we go on the hydroslides we will go in the main big pool and the hot pools. After we are finished at hanmer springs pools we will go out for tea at a restaurant there. After that we might go to cheviot to say HI to Tim's parents and also they live on a farm and they got some animals. After that we will drive back to my house and have a rest and go to sleep.

I got 307 words.

Conclusion:
A few weeks ago we have been learning about renewable energy. Then we had to watch a video on how o make a solar powered oven and then we had to make it ourselfs. it took a few hours because we had to wait a while for some sellotape and everyone had to use it. There are the materials and the steps on how to make it above.

Aim: To make a presentation that investigates different renewable energy's.

Section 1: Title Page

Make a title page that incorporates all renewable energy 's Hydro, Solar, Wind and Wave.

Section 2: Definitions

Define and provide a picture of each energy type.

  1. Hydro Energy - Hydroelectric energy is energy derived from the movement of water. Water has mass. It falls and flows downward due to gravity. When it moves, it has kinetic energy which can be harnessed. Kinetic energy is the energy of motion
  2. Solar Energy - radiant energy emitted by the sun.
  3. Wind Energy - electrical energy obtained from harnessing the wind with windmills or wind turbines.
  4. Wave Energy -

    Description

Wave power is the capture of energy of wind waves to do useful work – for example, electricity generation, water desalination, or pumping water. A machine that exploits wave power is a wave energy converter.

Section 3; Investigate each of the 4 Energy types.
( Hydro ,Solar ,Wind ,Wave )

  1. Type: Hydro
  2. Is it used in NZ ?  Yes it has
  3. Other Countries that use it?  Albania, Paraguay, Congo, Nepal, Namibia, Zambia, Tajikistan, Norway, Ethiopia, Kyrgyzstan
  4. How is it used to generate electricity?  Hydropower plants capture the energy of falling water to generate electricity. A turbine converts the kinetic energy of falling water into mechanical energy. Then a generator converts the mechanical energy from the turbine into electrical energy.
  5. Draw and label a diagram of the main parts of the electricity generator? This can be done on paper and uploaded or on a drawing program on your device. I do not want any Internet images or pictures. They must be hand drawn using a ruler and labelled.

Section 4: Renewable Energy in the future.

List 10 ways that renewable energy will be used in the future to replace our current activities.

Less global warning
Public health
Inexhaustible energy
Jobs and other economic benefits
Stable energy prices
Reliability and resilience

C.I.P Gardening

Today in C.I.P we have been pulling out weeds  because there is a hell of a lot of weeds from over the 4 weeks it also has been raining for a long time. Once the classes went to the garden my friends and I put some gloves on and we started pulling out weeds. When we pulled out the weeds we put them into a pile and when we were finished we put them piles into a 1 massive big pile. During that time we were just messing around for a while. Our teacher got us our plants that we grew a month or 2 ago and we dug them into our garden so we can water them until they are fully growen. When our teacher gave us the plat they wernt growen yet some of it was out of the dirt from around the plant. After that we packed up and my friend and I put 2 of the shovels in the garage and my teacher gave us the keys to unlock and lock the garage while they went back to class.

Then we came back to class and so now we are doing the blog post.

Hurumanu - Wind Power

Measuring weather.

Definitions:

  1.  Anemometer: An instrument for measuring the speed of the wind, or of any current of gas
  2. Beaufort wind scale: The Beaufort scale is an empirical measure that relates wind speed to observed conditions at sea or on land. Its full name is the Beaufort wind force scale
  3. Typhoon: A tropical storm in the region of the Indian or western Pacific oceans.
  4. Monsoon:  A seasonal reversing wind accompanied by corresponding changes in precipitation, but is now used to describe seasonal changes in atmospheric circulation and precipitation associated with the asymmetric heating of land and sea.

Conclusion: In science we have been recording the answers of how fast the wind power is going in different directions. It was raining so our science teacher Mr Palmer told us the answers so then we had to write them down. For the field it was spinning around 20 times in 15 seconds, old J block site was spinning around 15 times in 15 seconds, Grass hill was spinning 10 times in 15 seconds and the tennis court gate was spinning around 3 times in 15 seconds. I think the reason it went around 3 times was because there were trees around the gate so it was stopping the wind.

Tane Mahutia - TinkerCad

This morning Our teacher Mrs Allen showed us our CIP taskboard where it shows different activitys that we can chose from to do for a few hours. The activity that I have chosen is, Use TinkerCad to create a 3D model of your dream house and garden. Use google to get some inspiration for your house. Mrs Allen said it is very fun to do and you can build whatever you want but it takes a bit of time to get used to. So my friends and I wen off and started to make our dream house, I didn't do much because It was hard to get used to and I was talking to my friends to much. It was very cool one of my favourites is that you can move a box in the top left corner and you can move it around to see all around the thing that you have made.

An hour later our teacher aid took a group to plant some trees at the back of the field so we can make a big forest. I am a year 8 now and the teacher aid said that it will be fully growen when I am a year 13. The teacher aid name it Mark and he is very good at growing things and he knows every plant. After we went to the back of the field and he told us how to plant the trees. Then we got a spade and then we put some garden gloves on so our hands didn't get dirty, so we got a plant and dug a hole and big as a normal sized bucket. Then we squeezed the bottom of the tree so it could come out of the container because all plants come in a container. Once it came out we squeezed the bottom so the roots and spread out. In the whole there were alot of big giant worms, HuHu Grubs and maggots it was disgusting. When I was digging up the hole there was a piece and I thought it was a kind of bone but it was a bit of a tree. After we squeezed the roots we put it in the middle of the hole and then we put the lose dirt around it. After everyone got a turn we packed up to go to class and now we are doing this blog.

Here are 2 photos of the taskboard and the house that I have made. The house is not my dream house it is a plain and simple just to show you what you can do. You can also change the colours of the things you have made.

Hurumanu - Decomposing and Recycling

Hurumanu - Decomposing and Recycling

Aim: To learn about the rate that different materials decompose.

Hypothesis: I think the banana is going to rot first because it is lighter and weak than the paper and the stryophone. I also think the banana and the bread is going to change colour because 1 the banana is smaller and softer and 2 the bread is going to change colour to brown because my brain says so.

Materials:

  1.   4 test tubes
  2.   1 test tube rack
  3.   A strip of Bread
  4.   Water
  5.   A strip of paper
  6.   2 pieces or more of Banana
  7.   A strip of Styrophone
Steps:
  1.   Get the equipment you need for the experiment above
  2.   In 1st test tube put the banana inside. Im only using 2 pieces
  3.   In the 2nd test tube put the strip of paper inside
  4.   In the 3rd test tube put the styrophone strip inside
  5.   In the 4th test tube put the strip of bread inside

Holiday Recount

This morning my class got into a circle and we had to say 2 highlights or just 1 highlight and 1 lowlights. I had 2 highlights and they were that I went to rolleston pool and went mini golf. Now we have to write a blog post about them to share with you's.

The first Highlight was that I went to rolleston pool. The reason why I went to rolleston pool was for my little sister's 6th birthday on the 9th of October on Wednesday. On Tuesday the day before my sister and I made her a chocolate cake and chocolate cupcakes. They turned out very good, then we had to decorate them with sprinkles. After that we blow up 30 balloons. When we got to rolleston pool I went in the lazy river and the mushroom pool because they are joined together. The thing I dislike about rolleston pool is that all of the pools are mostly for little children. The other thing I dislike about rolleston pool is that there is a spa pool but it was warm and cold, also there was no bubbles it was mostly like a warm pool. After about 3 hours we got pout and got dressed to go home but before I went home we got an ice cream.

The second Highlight was that I went to mini golf in ferry mead. In the morning we waited for my mums friend son to come round for the day. Then we went to the warehouse because my mum didn't get him a present and he chose a big Nerf gun, After that we went to Riccarton mall for lunch at about 11am but before that we wanted to decide what we wanted to do and my sister and my mums friend son and they chose to go to the movies so we went over there and the only good movie for them was Dora and the lost city of gold and they didn't want to watch them because other wise we would of had to wait for an hour and a half. So then we decided to go to mini golf so then we went to have lunch I had sushi. After that we drove down to ferrymead and it was raining, at ferrymead there are 2 mini golfs an inside 1 and an outside one. I wanted to got to the outside one because it is bigger and longer. The inside one it is very dark and small. I got 3 wholes in 1. At the end we got an ice block.

Orana Wildlife Park

On Tuesday 3 classes called Sh, Ts and Wh went to Orana wildlife park for the day. We left school at about 8:45 and we went on the bus and I sat next to my friend Cody. When we were in the bus we were drawing and writing in our books because we were bored. The teachers didn't allow us to take photos but I still brung my phone and I sneaked some photos without them knowing. From my perspective I think that it is really rude.

When we got there we got into lines in classes and the tour guide woman told us not to feed the animals because it will make them sick and she said if the birds come to you looking hungry dont give it to them because they have already been feed. After that we followed the tour guide to the eating area to drop our bags off and we had some morning tea. Then each class got another tour guide person for the day. Our tour guide name was Richard and each time we saw an animal he gave us about 3 facts about them.

Here are some of the animals that we saw.

The first animal we saw was the Kea's when we first got in there all I could hear was the water were they give themselves a clean. There were 3 kea's but we only saw 2 the sound that they make is really cool and there wings were orange underneath. When I got a point of view of the Kea I took my phone out and took some photos when the teacher wasn't looking.

The other animal that we saw was the gorilla at the end of the trip it was funny because 1 of the gorillas was picking its nose and then eating eat and then also he picked the boogers from his fingers and then ate them. The other gorilla pooed on the ground then picked it up and ate it. It was disgusting.

The teachers said we had to tell you at least 3 facts about some animals

The 1st fact was that Gorillas live around 35 years, they can also live longer up to 50 years in captivity

The 2nd fact was that giraffes can run as fast as 35 miles an hour over short distances or cruise at 10 mph over longer distances

The 3rd fact was that the roar of a lion can be heard from 8 kilometres

Here are some photos that I took of the animals on my phone without teachers knowing for you people.
