Water Filtration Plant

What is filtration?

Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.

Examples are:

  1.  Oil
  2.  A swimming pool
  3.  Water
  4. Kettle

Materials

1. Filter paper, cone
2. Funnel
3. Sand
4. Bottle
5. Scissors
6. Water/Dirt
7. Pebbles

Process - ( use verbs or doing words in each step )

Step 1

Get a empty bottle and cut around the top to make a funnel

Step 2

Fold the filter paper to make a cone

STEP 3

Put the funnel in the bottle, also put the cone in the funnel after that push the cone towards the sides of the bottle

STEP 4

Get 1 cup of sand and put it into the cone slowly

STEP 5

Get 1 cup of pebbles and put them with the sand slowly
STEP 6
After that get a cup of water and dirt and then put the water in the funnel and count how much drops of water went through. See what colour it changed

Findings
The water went quiet fast but my group counted up the drops, The water went through about a quarter way through and the colour of the water was clear

Minutes                          1.                         2.                   3.                    4.                       5.
Drops per minute:         32                       32                  32                   32                      32
Water colour:               clear                   clear               clear               clear                  clear

Conclusion:
The water that flowed through the filter was clear with a green tinge. The water flowed at 32 drops per minute. The bark, soil &  leaves sat on top of the pebbles

The teacher asked us a question. Why did the drops go slowly?
The drops went down slowly because of the filter paper
