Paper Plane Experiment

Today in science we learned about planes and aerodynamics, this is what we had to do today

FLIGHT

Aim: To learn about flight and aerodynamics.

  • In your groups of 3 you will make a paper plane and measure its distance and behaviour.
  • In groups of 3 you will make a water rocket and record its distance and behaviour.
Image result for flight forces

Here are some definitions about flight and aerodynamics

4 forces of flight:

  1. Gravity
  2. Thrust
  3.   Lift
  4.   Drag

Paper Plane:

Materials:

1. Paper
2. Paper clips
3. Scissors
4. Measuring tape

Steps:

1. Get a piece of paper
2. Make a paper plane

There are three steps to this:

1. Throw it normally and measure it
2. Cut ailerons on the wings then throw it and measure it
3. Put a paper clip on the nose then throw it
Here are our results:

Findings:

Plane Type
Distance
Behaviour
Normal
2.9cmIt curved to the side

Ailerons
2.3cmIt curved to the side

Paper clip

2.8cmIt went straight

Conclusion:
For the normal throw it went 2.9cm, the Aileron went 2.3cm and the paper clip throw went 2.8cm. The behaviour was for the normal throw it curved to the side, For the ailerons it curved to the side and the paper clip throw it went straight.
